Our History

Massena New York

In 1963, ten visionary employees of Chevrolet Aluminum Foundry of GM Corporation in Massena invested $5 each to obtain a share in a newly formed organization that we know today as SeaComm Federal Credit Union. Initially working from a toolbox, the young credit union grew to 350 members, and in 1966 was moved to the UAW Hall.

Growth continued in the early 1970’s and in 1975 a merger and new community charter expanded services to over 1,200 members with assets of $600,000. Working out of offices that proved to be too small, plans were made to construct a new building site, and in 1979 the credit union was relocated to 30 Stearns Street, Massena.

Product offerings were expanded during the years to follow that would include many that we are familiar with today, such as checking accounts, open-end loans, certificates and safety deposit boxes to name just a few. By 1982 the second Massena location was opened on Andrews Street and would later be moved to its current location at 30 Stearns Street.

Soon the need for expanded community locations was warranted and the credit union opened subsequent branches in Potsdam (1985), Malone (1990), Canton (2004), Ogdensburg (2010), Plattsburgh (2017), and Watertown (2021), New York and South Burlington (2020) and Essex (2021), Vermont. As we have evolved throughout the years, we've grown to offer products and services such as NetTeller™, electronic services, Mobile Branch and our expanded Call Center.

SeaComm Federal Credit Union serves over 53,900 members with assets of over $800 million and is open to persons who live, work, (or regularly conduct business in), worship or attend school in and businesses and other legal entities located in St. Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, Essex, Jefferson, Lewis Counties, New York and Grand Isle, Chittenden and Franklin Counties, Vermont.
